Choose a specialty. Doctors may have reported a different specialty in 2009 and 2015. The import calculation uses the 2015 specialty, while the export and retention calculations use the 2009 specialty.
The import calculation displays the physicians or residents that the selected state received from other states as a percent of the state's 2015 physician population. The export calculation displays the physicians that the selected state contributed to other states as a percent of the state's 2009 resident or physician population. The net (state-to-state) displays the net migration of the selected state relative to each other state, while the net (state-to-all) calculation displays the net migration for each state relative to all other states in aggregate. The net migration is calculated as Imports - Exports. The retention calculation displays the number of physicians or residents who were retained by each state. No state is selected under the net (state-to-all) or the retention calculations.
Residents filters the physician population to include only physicians who were residents in 2009. Physicians filters the physician population to include only physicians who were active physicians (not residents) in 2009. All physicians in the sample were non-residents in 2015.
